This chapter started out the Olivia saving Gully and them being in her fathers ship. This chapter is where we find out that noone was responsible for abandoning Gully on his ship except Olivia Presteign. He was so upset but he did not hurt her or do anything to harm her compared to if he found out it was someone else...someone hes not in love with. Another very interesting thing in this chapter was that he had mention that he could no longer carry the wait of the cross anymore and just wanted to do...Does this prove the fact that Mr.Trimmer was trying to get us to understand at the beggining of the book that he may be a Godly figure?-Marissa Kosko-Blyler

I also think that in this chapter is where Gully realizes how stupid he has been. He says that hes an animal. This is a huge step for Gully. Also like Marissa said, he doesn't hurt Olivia, when before when he was blinded by his revenge he probably would have thought twice and killed her by torture. He calls Olivia a monster, so he is stronger because he sees through her beauty and sees that she is a really mean person. When he realizes that he has been stupid he wants to turn himself into the police, even though he had the choice to not be caught. -Kathryn Yacobucci

I also agree with Marissa and Kathryn. I think this is a real turning point chapter in the book. Gully realizes how one-minded and stupid he has been. He at first is upset because he thinks he is on Vorga, but then realizes it isn't Vorga the enemy ship, it is his enemy's own ship. It is Olivia Preseign's father's ship. He is at first very upset but expresses his love for her and she does the same. He also is able to see through her beauty and realize she is a criminal like him. He realizes what is right and decides to turn himself in, even though he is perfectly safe where he is. -Nicole Crossman

Response: Nicole makes a very intelligent assessment on how Gully does indeed see through Olivia's beauty and truly realize that she is a criminal, almost identical to Gully, in the way that they both plot evil against the rest of the world because of their sufferings. I'm also surprised that Gully had the kind of heart to turn himself in. I assumed ever since his face had been tattooed with that of a tiger that he had the heart of an angry tiger, and this is obviously incorrect. -Cullen Schimminger

I have noticed in this chapter, that there have been a lot of questions answered. We, the reader, find out who has abandoned Gully. (Olivia Presteign) We also find out what is behind her beauty. (a criminal) We learn how PyrE can be dangerous and what it can do. We also see Jisabella turn evil. We see Gully realizing his past and preparing for the future. Do we see, as Marissa mentioned, Gully as a godly figure? There are a lot of questions that have been answered and many more to come. -Nicole Crossman

I do not see Gully as a Godly figure. Mr. Trimmer keeps trying to put this on us, but I do not believe that I can follow it. How could any Godly figure kill people? If Gully were a god he would not kill. I see him as the Anti-Christ from Revelations in the bible. This Anti-Christ figure comes to the earth to betray the people. He comes to presuade that he is Christ, but in the background, he kills and cheats his way to the top. Just as Gully did in this book. It is eveident that a killer, a thief, and a raper can be called Christ. In the book he breaks like all of the Ten Commandments. *Kayle Giarth*

Page 208..Foyle unfastened himself, pressed his elbows against the matress and floated up. He drifted through the darkness searching for a light switch or a call button. I think its a great talent to be able to just get up and float or fly threw the room. Jaunting is a great example of it because it gets you from one place to another in the matter of seconds. If this really happened the world would be a dissaster i think. - [lauryn colmer]

Pg. 208 "He was aboard a ship. He was strapped to the bed. The ship was in free fall." When I read this text from the book, I think that it means that Gully is on the Vorga.-Ashlee Carson

Pg 211 "Let millions be murdered. It makes no difference to us." Olivia is very selfish. She is willing to let millions die, when she could do something, and the only reason she isn't doing anything is because she think thinks it won't affect her. If six million people died, when already twelve million died in the first attack there would probably be a huge change for everyone. More security then what there already is, need for people to do jobs, people would probably lose trust in the security for failure to keep a second attack from happening. Also if people found out that she let it happen, she would be very hated. -Kathryn Yacobucci

I'm a little sick of Olivia, I agree with Kathryn, Olivia is so selfish. She only cares about herself and Gully. She obviously does not appreciate or understand human life. That's one thing that definitely will never change in no matter how far it is into the future. Ignorant people who don't care about anyone but themselves. If people were more compassionate and willing to help each other, there would be little, or even no war at all. -Casey Pipetti

RE: Actually, she isn't being truly selfish if she only cares about herself and Gully. I agree though, that she is selfish to an extent because she feels that because she's blind, the world should bow down to her. She should realize that she's not the only blind woman in the world and needs to suck it up and be mature about it. - Kaylee Goldsworthy =]

I agree with both of you. Olivia is rich and can do what she wants when she wants, not caring if 11 million die in the process. This shows that she is selfish and that rich people in the future are no different then they are now. Only when one of those 11 million people is Gully or someone else she loves, will she realize her mistakes. -Bryant Sell

I also agree, Olivia doesn't seem to care what happens to humanity, or what happens to society. I know she says she is trying to punish the world for being so blind, but that really doesn't seem like any real reason that she would try and kill so many, instead she just seems like a compulsive maniac. Another thing that supports this is the fact that she randomly decides to "love" Gully, only after she just met him. - Christian Graham

Pg.217: "Through Will and Idea," Presteign repeated. "PyrE can only be exploded by psychokinesis. Its energy can only be released by thought. I agree with Jisbella when she says "Its the road to hell". I think its very dangerous for anyone to have PyrE. They are many bad people out there who would love to think other people dead and the outer planets would love to think the inner planets dead. I believe no one should have PyrE-Taylor Vladic

Response: I agree with Taylor completely that no one should have PyrE. I believe it would just cause chaos and then everyone would perhaps die trying to get their hands on this PyrE. I also believe whoever has PyrE could control any war or maybe even planet by fear of destroying them with PyrE.- Chanelle Meadows

Pg.221: Foyle says "The man who gives his own decisions priority over society is a criminal". This shows that Foyle finally realizes that what he has been doing is wrong. His journey for revenge made him not care about anybody except himself. But he now sees that the society as a whole is more important than one man.-Taylor Vladic

Response: Yeah Taylor i agree with you on this one because you can obviously tell he has come to his senses because he is acting more civilized and basically turning himself in when he knows that if he continues he probably wouldnt be caught. He even admits to every crime he has commited as well. I think for how responsible he may be when he does this, i still think it was a bad idea knowing how much trouble he will get in and that he will most likely die. He does realize that there is more important things than him so turning in the PyrE was a smart decision but its too bad that Dagenham whacks out on him anyway and hurts Foyle. -Mindy Hayton

I also agree what taylor and mindy have said. I think that during his quest for revenge of what happened to him he has lost all sense of right and wrong and he learns that many, well most, of the things he has done was wrong. -victor lemus.

Pae 210 'For being blind," she saidin a smoldering voice. 'For being cheated. For being helpless...They should have killedme when I was born. Do you know what it's like to be blind...to recieve life second han? To be dependent, begging, crippled? 'Bring them down to your level' I told my secret life. 'If you're blind make themblinder. If you're helpless, cripple them. Pay them back...all of them.' I can't believe Olivia said that. Yes, it would suck to live life secondhand and miss out on the beauty of sight. But thatsno reason to murder people and be so hatefull. I understand that she would be mad about her flaws, but she can't blame people she has never me before. At least, when Gully wanted to go after someone, he has a reason; not a very good one, but a reason. Unlike Olivia, who claims 'They should have killed me when I was born.'and has murder million of innocent people. To me that doesn't make sense. If he wishes she was killed when shewas born, why not take her own life, instead of murdering innocent people? -Heather Gibson

Pg.209 Why is Foyle demanding anwsers out of Olivia? He sounds a little like a animal when he is doing this. I think he is going back to his old self the one who acts like animal and does not have a moral to live by. The person who does not know right from wrong and does wrong but not alot of right.- Katelyn Broughton

so, olivia and gully are both insane, and wanted revenge on people. cool, they are a perfect match, but i didnt see why he would want to give her up at first. but its good that he finally wants to pay for everything he has done. - Haley Kline

Responce: yes i agree and i think him wanting pay for all that he has done is like him taking up his cross and paying for all the sin that he has done. A.E. the sin o f the world..considering he has committed almost every crime imaginable-John BEnton

Pg 211: "Let millions be murdered!" It's this attitude that Olivia has that really echoes one of the many aspects of the novel. The Stars My Destination is a science-fiction novel set way into the future that does good at making it seem like that since technology has progressed so much that population has sky-rocketed for 400 years, that human life may not be totally obsolete, but it is definitely not worth nearly as much and is treated so. It's also seems that way from the bombing raid in Chapter 11: 10-12 million dead. Humankind is at the point where no one cares about life as much as they did.-Tim Galbraith

Pg. 210 " 'For being blind,' she said in a smoldering voice. 'For being cheated. For being helpless...They should have killed me when I was born. Do you know what it's like to be blind...to receive life secondhang? To be dependent, begging, crippled? "Bring them down to your level," I told my secret life. "If you're blind make them blinder. If you're helpless, cripple them. Pay them back...all of them." ' " When I read this, I thought of the saying "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". Olivia wants everyone else to suffer like she does, and in Gully's case, it worked. - Julie Carney

I agree with Tim, it seems like the human life is worth much less in the future. For example, Olivia kills the refugees Vorga was transporting, and hardly thinks anything of it. -Julie Carney

pg 211: "I'm not a child anymore. I've learned to understand that nothing is simple. there's never a simple answer. You can love someone and loathe them." Gully must really love her to say this. Before with Moira, he didn't respect her at all and raped her. He completely took advantage of the fact that he was her husband. Gully has Olivia's heart now, he could definately take advantage of her, but he respects her enough to tell her he is confused and what he is doing isn't right. Also, Gully is growing and maturing. Now that Vorga is out of the way, his head is clear enough for him to think about what he does before he does it. His head is no longer crowded with revenge. -Janelle Meadows

Pg. 212 " 'What's happened to you?' She demanded. She broke away from him, her coral eyes glittering. 'Where's the man who watched the raid with me? Where's the unashamed savage who - ' " I think this passage sums up the change in Gully well. At the beginning of the book, he was an uneducated gutter-tounge speaking savage, but now, he is much more sophisticated and reformed. - Julie Carney

R: I agree in the beginning of the book he seemed like a bum that couldn't talk right and i thought that this book would be the same way all the way through but now that he can actually talk like a regular human being the book is actually kind of good i wish they would make a sequel so we could find out what happens in his future but you can make your own story up to what you think will happen. -- Jameson Holsinger :)

Pg. 216 " My daughter, gentleman, has...for some time been engaged in...certain activities. The family vice. Blood and - I.... have managed to close my eyes to it...Had almost convinced myself that I was mistaken. I...But Foyle! Dirt! Filth! He must be destroyed!' Presteign's voice soared alarmingly. His head twisted back like a hanged man's and his body began to shudder. ' " This seems like the traditional struggle of class. Olivia loves Gully, and Gully loves Olivia, but their social classes are very different, sort of like Romeo and Juliet. Olivia is a Presteign, while Gully used to speak gutter-tounge and did not act as properly as the Presteigns do. - Julie Carney

Pg. 222- Gully and Sheffield were talking and Bunny came in. Sheffield didn't know that he was talking to Gully Foyle until Bunny told him. Sheffield then attacked him. This surprised me that he attacked him and then soon I found out that Sheffield was an OS agent.- ALEX GEESEY'

Response: Going with what Alex said, I was really surprised too. I kinda thought the book was beginning to wind down, and then Sheffield comes out of nowhere and changes it completly. -Jess Filegar

Pg. 219 - "He made you let him get that far?" Sheffield looked impressed. "Who is he? God, or somebody?" Wow, yet another reference to a religious background to the story. Following up with all of Mr. Trimmer's discussions during class, Gully does seem to play a religious role in the story, and a comment like this is the kind of evidence that can back it up. -Cullen Schimminger

pg 216. My daughter, gentleman has.... for some time been engaged in...certain activities" why would olivia go and help Gully now? she does or didnt seem to care about him before, does she feel sorry for him or why did she have a change of heart? -*Aaron Gromiller*

Pg. 208. "I knew that Gully Foyle was my enemy from the beginning. I never knew he was Fourmyle until we met. Ah, if only I'd known before. How much would have been saved." Does she mean that she would have never fallen in love with him or something? If she knew that he was her enemy how could she have let herself fall in love with him in the first place but i guess the expression the heart wants what the heart wants would come in play here. -- Jameson Holsinger :)

Pg. 208. " He was aboard a ship. He was strapped to the bed. The ship was in free fall." i think its weird how he just appears on a ship let alone Vorga. - Jess Koch

WHile reading this chapter, I was very shocked that Olivia Presteign was in charge of refusing to save Gully. That was probably one of the most shocking parts of the story Sam Ellis

Pg. 210 "For being blind," she said in a smoldering voice. "For being cheated. For being helpless... They should have killed me when i was born. Do you know what its like to be blind..to recieve life secondhand? To be dependent, begging, crippled? 'Bring them down to your level.' I told me secret life. ' If youre blind make them blinder. If your helpless, cripple them. Pay them back... all of them." Olivia is basically just trying to get some pity for her from Gully because shes blind and using it as an excuse why she did what she did to the passengers of Vorga that she scuttled and murdered. I dont like Olivia and in this section i thought she was lying to Gully the whole time when she was saying she loved him. She sounds like shes just trying to capture him or something.-Mindy Hayton

Response: I agree with you Mindy about her saying that she loved him, but i think it was just a set up to get something out of him or make him weak with love thinking that she could bring him down.-Skippy

Pg.209 "I love you, Olivia." "I love you, Gully my enemy." Whenever i read this it kind of reminded me of Romeo and Juliet and how both of their familys hated each other and considered themselves as enemies towards one another.-SKIPPY

Pg. 220: "Been busy, haven't you? Either you're the Prince of Villains or insane".. "I've been both, Mr. Shefield". Right there Gully shows that he's hit the level of conscience that eats people apart. A few dialogues later, he goes on to say that gaining a conscience is the worst disease known to man which it really is. Your conscience wears and tears at you until you try and correct it so its off your mind. -Joel Redfoot

Pg. 215. " let's hear all about pyrE. i've got an idea how we can bring Foyle out into the open and locate the stuff, but ive got to know all about it first. make your comtribution." i think everyone wants to know about the pyrE or see it. Instead of being told about it all the time. They just want it to stop. - Jess Koch

Pg. 208. "I knew that Gully Foyle was my enemy from the beginning. I never knew he was Fourmyle until we met. Ah, if only I'd known before. How much would have been saved." I think that Olivia is trying to say, that if she knew that Gully was the one aboard the ship, she never would've abandonded it. This also made me think that because she's blind, perhaps that is one factor that plays into her loving Gully. -Taylor Cashdollar.

Pg. 207- 208. "He explored with trembling fingers. He was in a bed. He listened to the murmur of ventilators and refrigerants and the click and buzz of servo-mechanisms. He was aboard a ship. He was strapped to the bed." - When I first read this, I immediately thought that Gully was captured and that someone or something was totally going to do a lobotomy on him or some painful torturous surgery to get information out of him. It just turned up he was on Vorga commanded by Olivia Presteign. - Kaylee Goldsworthy =]
